A Word from Pastor Elizabeth

… Prayer …

I asked for strength

and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.

I asked for wisdom

and God gave me problems to learn to solve.

I asked for prosperity

and God gave me a brain and brawn to work.

I asked for courage

and God gave me dangers to overcome.

I asked for love

and God gave me people to help.

I asked for favours

and God gave me opportunities.

I received nothing I wanted.

I received everything I needed.

There is an old saying, “Prayer does not give us what we want, but prayer helps us want what we need.”  Prayer is not designed to change or persuade God; prayer is designed by God to change us. It is the way God shapes and forms us into true disciples of Jesus Christ.

Prayer connects us to our Creator and helps us remember that we are indeed following a God who is at work in the world. As we live and work in a hurting yet beautiful world, signs of God’s presence encourage us.

Have you ever experienced a “God moment” where the presence of God is palpable? Those sacred times keep us going on our path of discipleship, they grow our faith, they refresh us and remind us that we are not alone in our journey.

During the month of August, I will be preaching about God moments in the Bible – those times when people experienced the presence of God so powerfully that their lives were transformed. These are not just stories to be retold, these are reminders that God continues to be a powerful presence in our lives today – a transformative presence! And the best way to tap into that powerful and transformative presence is through prayer.

I hope you will join us in person or online as we look at these incredible stories.

Blessings,

Pastor Elizabeth
